Delete your account and data
1. Delete in the app
If you have the Barnaby app on your device, delete your account as follows: open the app and go to Settings → Manage account → Delete account. After a short security confirmation, your account is deleted permanently.
2. Delete without the app (by email)
No longer have the app installed? Send us an informal deletion request to datenschutz@barnaby.at. Please write from the email address you registered with and include your username so we can clearly identify your account. We will then delete your account within 30 days and confirm the deletion by email.
3. What gets deleted
When you delete your account, we remove your account, your profile, your dogs, your walks including routes and photos, and your messages. Your comments are anonymised — they appear as “Deleted user”, with no reference to you. Uploaded photos and technical residual data are removed afterwards within 30 days. Copies in backups expire with the backup retention period, at the latest 30 days after deletion.
Deletion is final and cannot be undone.
4. What we keep
We retain some details for a limited time after deletion because we need them to protect other users or as evidence:
• Reports and moderation decisions concerning your account, and the log of our notices about them: we anonymise them 12 months after the report is concluded or the decision is made; after that, no link to you can be established.
• Deletion log with the internal account identifier (no name, no e-mail address): 12 months after deletion.
• Suspension marker, if your account is suspended at the time of deletion (an irreversible checksum of your e-mail address, without your name): at most 12 months, and in the case of a temporary suspension only until it ends.
• Content we report to the authorities as presumably illegal, together with the related account details: 90 days after the report, at most one year after it was secured – even if your account has since been deleted, unless an authority requires longer retention.
• Requests and replies about whether we may feature your content on Barnaby channels: for as long as we need to prove the consent.
You can also delete individual walks, photo posts or dogs directly in the app without deleting your account. For other individual data, write to us at datenschutz@barnaby.at.
5. Just pause instead of delete?
If you only want to take a break, you can deactivate your profile in the app instead (Settings → Manage account → Deactivate profile). Your profile is then hidden; the next time you sign in, everything is back.
